Plot / Synopsis

The lovely orphan Annie is wandering St Tropez when she meets a mysterious photo-journalist, who convinces her to pose nude for him on the luscious beaches. Proud of her work as the photographer's muse, Annie agrees to travel to Brazil with him to model nude. After her swarthy companion tries to force himself upon her, Annie flees into the arms of Hugo: another photographer, but one with a more gentle spirit. Hugo takes Annie on a fateful trip into the heart of the Amazon, where the danger and the passion heat up.

User Review

"The Awakening of Annie" is an odd film that tries to disguise its true motive, which is to depict sexual violence. Annie Friedman plays the titular character who is frigid from a rape at the hands of one of the ugliest and most truly frightening-looking actors I have ever seen on the screen. She models nude and semi-nude for a photographer and wears the skimpiest of miniskirts but does not seem to be mentally in touch with the fact that she is a latent tease. After fleeing from the aforementioned thirty something photographer who tries to have his way with her, she runs smack dab into another, younger photographer who shows her true love barely ten minutes after she tells him she cannot have sexual relations because of her rape experience. Annie is happy at last, but a very unpleasant twist of fate is on the horizon.

But then it lurches out into the world of admen and nightclubs, and is conventionally angled towards the sex scenes. There's also a strange subplot about a servant who keeps a poster for The Servant on his wall.

Dan Murphy leads a group of gold miners into the California mountains where they set up camp. The men are besieged by food shortage, bitter cold, and Muck Mulligan and his gang of outlaws. Upon arriving at the camp, the women satisfy the men's sexual needs and then prepare to return to the Fandango Saloon, but their caravan is again attacked by Mulligan. Murphy's miners come to their defense, and in the ensuing gunfight Billy is killed, and Murphy is injured. The women are captured and tortured by Mulligan, but Mona manages to shoot him. Later, Sam and Pauline are married, and Dan bids farewell to Mona, leaving her to her life of prostitution.

Plot / Synopsis

The main story concerns an innocent young man, Nur-e-Din (Franco Merli), who comes to fall in love with a slave girl, Zumurrud (Ines Pellegrini), who selected him as her master. After a foolish error of his causes her to be abducted, he travels in search of her. Meanwhile Zumurrud manages to escape and, disguised as a man, comes to a far-away kingdom where she becomes king. Various other travellers who recount their own tragic and romantic experiences include stories of a young man who becomes enraptured by a mysterious woman on his wedding day, and a man who is determined to free a woman from a demon (Franco Citti). Interwoven are Nur-e-Din's continuous search for Zumurrud and his - mostly erotic - adventures. In the end he arrives at the far-away kingdom and is finally reunited with Zumurrud. The tales contain abundant nudity, sex, and slapstick humor.
